In the official tech community blog, Microsoft explained their planning to remove support for Microsoft Edge Legacy, it means the termination of the release of updates for the browser. The planned "Tuesday update" for Windows 10 will be released on April 13th. This update will remove Microsoft Edge Legacy from the system and install the new Microsoft Edge on the Chromium engine if it is not already present on the PC. The process of removing and replacing will happen automatically, whether the user wants it or not.
“In August 2020, we announced that support for To replace this out of support application, we are announcing that the new Microsoft Edge will be available as part of the Windows 10 cumulative monthly security update – otherwise referred to as the Update Tuesday (or “B”) release–on April 13, 2021,” Microsoft said in a post.
Microsoft notes that since Windows 10 20H2 has the new Chromium-powered Edge already installed as the default browser, it won’t be reinstalled, only the old Edge will be removed. Microsoft promises the new Edge is fast and reliable. Internet Explorer will be sticking around, though that, too, is set for some changes. Microsoft started winding down support for the browser in November 2020, and that's expected to end on Aug. 17, 2021, when Microsoft 365 ends its support for the now-ancient browser.
