Apple’s iCloud password sync on Windows cannot be downloaded the version of the app that allowed syncing passwords from Apple devices having Google's Chrome web browser on a Windows PC via Windows Central. iCloud version 12 of for Windows app released last week with supposed support for the same feature, but the Chrome extension to make it work wasn’t available. Now, version 12 is gone from the Windows Store, with version 11.6 taking its place.
Surprisingly, the changelog on the Windows Store still says that the password syncing functionality is present. However, upon downloading, the app shows the version as 11.6. According to the8-bit.com, the Chrome Extension is still available on the Chrome Web Store, at least for now. Anyone still on version 11 of the iCloud for Windows app, though, won’t be able to upgrade and take advantage of the extension. Also Windows will not allow the user to downgrade to the previous version once the PC is upgraded to version 12.
Currently, the latest downloadable version of iCloud on the Microsoft App Store is 11.6.32.0, which is a downgrade from the version 12 that was available yesterday. This is despite the fact that the description for the iCloud app on the Microsoft Store still mentions support for the iCloud Passwords extension.
So far it is unknown why Apple pulled the update feature, but many of the reviews are reporting that it doesn’t work on Mac, which it’s not designed for. Anyway, this has been one of the messier rollouts from Apple in recent.
